dn&co - branding

Updated: Nov 28, 2018

To begin the year, we have been set a live brief from London design consultancy dn&co. The brief is based around place branding, creating a new identity for Digbeth, an area on the outskirts of Birmingham.

dn&co explain their work as creating ‘meaningful places’. They introduce a design concept called place purpose, expanding from commercialised retail spaces to create more meaning behind places people want to visit and spend time.

‘Every place is an opportunity, not just for making money, but for being purposeful in the world – an imperative as people make more informed purchase choices.’ – dn&co

Further, they explain how people are increasingly interested in more than just places to ‘live, work, shop and play.’ This is a direct relation to gentrification and its issues coming into conversation and the public becoming more aware of how irresponsible gentrification can harm places. The agency champion placemaking and place purpose to ‘lead to places that are distinct, have beliefs and values, achieve change, provide social good and are commercially successful.’ These concepts really interest me and I’m looking forward to researching this place and attempting to find this ‘place purpose’ with the work i create.
