work-form

Updated: Dec 10, 2018

Work form are a design studio based in Peckham, formed of 3 guys who met at art college. The fundamentals of their design work stem from people, places and the local. This includes taking inspiration from the world around us, and putting importance on people and context within a project. For example, studying lettering and facades in cities tells us about the character of the place without involving any formal design techniques/theories. This puts 'music into the streets where we walk'.

"As a graphic designer, you are a collector of things"

An interesting idea made in this talk was the advice to design everything using digital, print it out and rescan to create a handmade feel. This is a technique I have always used, even making collages by hand rather than using digital, this creates an irreplaceable feel by digital means. 'Don't let the program define your work.'

Work-form's work was really inspiring for me as I enjoy working hands on and making visuals and design work much more than using digital programs. Also the ideas and heavy research base behind each work is something that I value highly, making sure clients are informed of the ideas behind work to give it a longer life span within the community. Also the clear passion for South London was evident with these designers, a passion I share equally.

Journal for art exhibition. The designers allowed the artist to draw his own borders around typed text. I really like this mixed media feel.

Original Risographies

Book exploring the boundaries of the risograph printer. Beautiful, experimental outcomes in a really original artist book format.
