logo development

Updated: Feb 8, 2019

Initial ideas - using typographic differences like uppercase/lowercase and italics to split the word homely into 'Home' and 'ly', perhaps alluding to the text-talk abbreviation of 'love you'

Adding a question mark to the end of the word Homely suggests a consideration of the word - a challenging. My magazine intends to question homeliness and how we each make ourselves comfortable, so this works well.

Whilst researching further and designing layouts, I realised that the logo in such structured serif type doesn't quite represent the magazine too well. I decided to explore hand drawn type to create a more personal, intimate feeling logo.
