For our next edit I cut the incidental shots to around 1-2 seconds each as recommended from our last tutorial. This cut also includes our recorded voiceover from a father and son and some found archive shots to represent the references within our script. The music in this cut is by Shigeto - When We Low. This mix between jazz and electronic gives a relaxed, slightly melancholic mood which I think works well for our film.

I think the voiceover for this cut is quite a difficult listen. Obviously having a child to act through a voice piece is going to be difficult, and I feel the mood is slightly too playful and perhaps a more pondering, deep voice would be better like the Leonard Cohen voiceover in Days of Kindness. Due to this, we are going to rewrite the script as a monologue for 1 voice actor and re-record with a more suitable sounding voice.

Also obviously this cut has a lot of blank space, gaps waiting for filling with some more archived footage and studio shots. We have booked studio space and will shoot some objects to suit once we have rewritten the script for 1 reader.

Stills from Beginners by Mike Mills for reference for studio shots
