YCN (You Can Now) is a learning network. We help creatively driven organisations to build the capabilities they need to achieve their objectives.

The YCN student programmes run each year, receiving live briefs from large companies for students to create work for them. Our options are working with Art Fund, the Energy Saving Trust, Hostelworld and Peabody - a London-based housing association. All with their own specific briefs and requirements, I found it tough initially to choose which best suits me.

I decided to focus on the Peabody brief - as some of my previous work has involved studying housing and I am looking to research 'the commodification of the home' as potential for a dissertation topic.

THE BRIEF

Overview

  • Peabody owns over 80 community spaces across London and Essex that are well used and loved locally.

  • Our community centres are home to arts and culture opportunities, health and wellbeing support and professional advice and guidance for Peabody residents and all local people.

Company values

  • Ambitious. We’re ambitious for our customers, for our communities and for each other;

  • Collaborative. We work collaboratively with each other and with partners and stakeholders to deliver more for our customers;Caring. We’re caring in the way we work and how we treat the people we work with;

  • Empowering. We support and empower our customers and colleagues to help them realise their potential;

  • Trusted. We’re trusted to keep our promises: we do what we say we will.

The community centres are used for:

  • Space and funding to deliver their own activities and events;

  • Careers advice;

  • Access to workshops and programmes including anything from healthy eating, parenting support, business development and dance classes, to animation workshops and after school clubs to financial advice and film production.

Target audience

  • We have over 80 community spaces across the capital which are used specifically for the benefit of the local community: our residents, local people, small organisations, enterprises and our partners.

The creative challenge

  • Help us to create a sense of identity for our community spaces that makes them stand out from the crowd, instantly recognisable

  • We want you to help us move beyond the ‘brand’ or simple visual identity and come up with an idea that feels bigger.

  • You’re free to create something in whatever shape, form, medium or channel you wish—as long as you think it will connect with our audiences in the right way and at the right times.

  • You might want to create a campaign, an experience, an identity, film or digital content that you think can do the job of fulfilling the brief.
